Ever since I was in 5th grade, I'd heard of a book called Divergent. Last month, I watched half of the movie on a plane. Immediately, I fell in love with the characters and plot. The next day, I started reading the books.
Divergent is in the point of view of Beatrice Prior, a 16 year old girl. In her world, people are divided by personality into 5 factions - Amity, Candor, Erudite, Dauntless, and Abnegation. Amity are the kind and caring. Erudite are the smart and wise. Candor are the honest. Dauntless are the brave and free. And Abnegation are the selfless leaders of the city.

Each year, every 16 year old is required to take a personality test to discover which faction they are fit for. Beatrice takes the test, but her scores are inconclusive. She doesn't belong in any of the factions, and therefore she's in danger. Beatrice must choose the right faction while also hiding her dangerous secret from the rest of the world.
Divergent has many themes that it follows throughout the book. The first theme is about bravery and selflessness. Beatrice reflects on her choice between bravery and selflessness. Near the end of the book, she realizes that they are similar because both bravery and selflessness require losing yourself and only thinking about others.
The second theme is about identifying your limits, and pushing them higher. Beatrice was faced with challenge after challenge. She knew that in order to face them, she needed to grow stronger and push the negativity out of her brain.
Overall, I enjoyed this book because it was very gripping and it taught me to step out of my comfort zone and stay confident to my choices. I also loved the twists and turns of the plot! I would absolutely recommend this book to others.
