he Maze Runner is the prequel to four other books in the maze runner series. The book is about a teenager named Thomas. Thomas wakes up in an elevator remembering only one thing - his name. He arrives in a courtyard with forty other boys. They have been there for varying amounts of time - one arriving every month for the last two years. The courtyard is surrounded by a maze that is inhabited by monsters. A girl - the first girl - arrives with a horrifying message. The maze is whipped into frenzy. They are not safe anymore. Will they escape the maze, or will it kill them one by one?

This book is a very action-packed thrill. Dashner does a great job of keeping the reader hooked. He perfectly mixes the right amounts of humor, thrill, and feeling to make the book seem alive. I enjoyed this book because It gave my heart a workout as Thomas ran. James Dasher puts lots of details in his simple sentences and makes the book very realistic.

One of the flaws in the book, is that the story is confusing. The reader is introduced to many new words that cause lots of confusion. Although this effect helps the reader sympathize with Thomas (he doesn't understand the words either), it makes the beginning hard to understand.

Overall, I enjoyed the book very much and recommend it to everyone. There are four other books in the series and one is coming out soon. This book has been made into a movie, which I hope to watch soon!
