Recently I read my first business book. It's called "Who Moved My Cheese?" I learned so many things that I never thought of before. The story starts with 2 mice and 2 little people about the same size as the mice. The mice are Sniff and Scurry. The people are Haw and Hem. They all live in a maze in which they could find the one thing they cared for- cheese.

One day the mice stumble across a corridor that has a lot of cheese called Cheese Station C. Then Haw and Hem find Cheese Station C. They are overwhelmed by the cheese and take a lot of it home. Unlike the mice, they don't realize that slowly the amount of cheese is decreasing. Soon there is no cheese left. Sniff and Scurry arrive at the station to find that all of it was eaten.

Sniff and Scurry sniff the station and scurry off into the maze to find another station. But Hem and Haw are devastated. They needed their cheese. Without it they would have to go into the maze and find more. For months they return to the station hoping for more cheese to appear. Haw imagines himself swimming in cheese. He realizes that it is ridiculous to just wait. They should go into the maze. Hem doesn't agree. He only wants his cheese from Station C. Later Haw leaves for the maze without Hem.

He was scared and tired. But he finally found some cheese. He thought about Station C and if he would get any cheese if he had just stayed there. He laughs. "Haw Haw Haw!" No he wouldn't have gotten any cheese. This gives him motivation. Then he finds a dark corridor. He is scared. All the possibilities run through his mind. But he learns that usually imagination of bad scenarios are always worse than the real situation. He finds another station but it is too late. Maybe if Haw had moved from Cheese Station C faster he could have gotten cheese. This motivates him to adapt to changes faster and better. Finally he finds Cheese Station N. There are Sniff and Scurry! With more cheese than ever!

The cheese represents opportunity. The stations are the place of opportunity. Sometimes the opportunity moves. You got to move with it. Change happens. You should get ready to change and adapt quickly. Enjoy change. Is it really bad. Yes? Is it because others say so and you want to fit in? Likely. So don't be Hem. That is my goal. I'll ask myself. What would I do if I weren't afraid. It would help me become Haw.

Who Moved My Cheese is by Spencer Johnson and Kenneth Blanchard. It is a useful book. The book will adjust your attitude about changes in life and how to deal with them. Read the book.
